Welcome to another edition of Friday Foodie Favorites! Today is the Hungryman’s birthday! Wheeee! 😉 And to help celebrate, we will be dining out not once, but (drum roll please) twice this weekend. That’s quite a treat for him, haha. I have a feeling he will indulge with reckless abandon.
Every month, we, the recipe reduxers, are given a chance to boast our creativity by tackling whatever challenge is thrown at us. This month’s challenge was to create a dish using “spooky” spices that either intimidate us or just need some long-lost attention.
Since I’m determined to use up my jar of turmeric, I can’t wait to make these recipes soon.
Maple Pecan & Ginger Granola | Love and Zest
Turkey Ball Curry | Runnin Srilankan
Savory Spiced Pumpkin Hummus | The Spicy RD
Turmeric Spiced Crispy Chickpeas | Gratitude and Greens
If there’s a spice(s) that needs your love, look no further! Click on any of the links above and you’ll find a wide array of recipe ideas.
Spinach Quinoa Patties | Back to Her Roots
These seem super simple to make, and I’d love to serve them alongside fish, chicken, a bed of greens..oh the possibilities. They’d make for a great afternoon snack, too!
Indian Spiced Basmati Rice | MJ and Hungryman
This dish was adapted from a tried and true recipe courtesy of the Hungryman’s coworker, Shilpa. It’s the perfect 30 minute, one pot wonder that makes for the perfect accompaniment. #makehealthyeasy
Baked Cauli-tots | The Fresh Beet
Ashley grabbed me instantly with her opener, “Nutrify your tator tot.” Not only did the classic kid favorite snack get a healthy makeover but the ketchup as well – enter beet ketchup! Who would’ve thought?
Leek and Pumpkin Fettucine | @Healthyaperture blog via 2 Eat Well RD
I’ve been absolutely loving the new column, Inspired Vegetarian, on Healthy Aperture blog. Danielle first introduced me to black bean noodles, and now I know – edamame and mung bean fettucine! What will they come up with next? With a well-stocked pantry, this meal can come together in a flash!
Crock Pot Chicken Tacos | Prevention RD
We all need recipes like this come, oh I’d say Wednesday for me, when my will-power starts to fade…very quickly. 5 ingredients. Set it and forget it. Love you, crockpot.
Homemade Spiced Apple Cider Doughnuts | the Spicy RD
Baked apple cider doughnuts I’ve had in the past. But gluten free? Never. To top it off, they’ve got coconut oil, maple syrup, and my favorite spice – cinnamon. Life will be better after I have one of these.
Speaking of gluten free desserts, how good do these muffins sound? I would’ve just stopped at muffins, but being the overachiever and as amazing as Sarah is, she added a streusel topping and cream cheese glaze! Bless her heart. 😉
Tips for taking beautiful food photos with your smart phone (part 1) via Meal Makeover Moms
I learned the power of a smart phone’s food photo taking capabilities at the Blog Brûlée Conference. And I must admit…I haven’t been practicing all that much since then. When I wrote my own food photography tips using a DSLR, many of you asked, “Well, what if I don’t own a DSLR?” Well, you’re in luck bc the Meal Makeover Moms have got you covered!
Whew! There was a lot going on this week as you can see. Hope you found some inspiration! Have a lovely weekend guys. 🙂
