Hope you had a fun and delicious Thanksgiving!  Stuffed yet?  I'm in Houston spending time with my sister and brother whom I haven't seen in about 3 months.  That's a really long time for us.  I will have a recap of our time together soon.  For right now, I want to share a simple recipe you can whip up in no time.  The key ingredient is Korean chili flakes.

Author: Min | MJ and Hungryman

    Ingredients

    • 2 Ibs chicken wings tips removed, drumettes and flats separated
    • 1 Tbs canola oil
    • ⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce
    • ½ cup honey
    • 1 Tbs Korean chili flakes
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 400F. Place a wire rack inside a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
    • Rinse chicken and pat dry. Transfer to a bowl and toss with canola oil. Spread out chicken in a single layer on baking rack. Bake until cooked through and skin is crispy, 40-45 minutes.
    • In the meanwhile, whisk together soy sauce, honey, chili flakes, and garlic powder in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and simmer until slightly thickened, approximately 10-15 minutes.
    • In a mixing bowl, toss chicken with sauce until well coated. Place under broiler until glaze is glossy and lightly caramelized, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and enjoy!

Spicy, sweet, and finger-licking good!!  Now I gotta warn ya - if you've never had these Korean chili flakes before, they've been known to induce a little sweating.  However, paired with honey, they cause nothing more than a little tingle of deliciousness in the mouth.  And as easy as this recipe came together, I wish I had known about Season with Spice's Spicy Korean Chili Seasoning - a blend of Korean chili flakes, toasted sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, Sichuan pepper, and red chili flakes...everything in this recipe and then some!

The Hungryman and I have been so fortunate to meet some amazing people as a result of our little blog, and for that, we're truly thankful :).  One of those special interactions was with Reese and Mark from the boutique spice shop, Season with Spice.  When they introduced us to the incredible array of spices on their site, we just knew we had to share.  Oh...and how about a giveaway?

Without further ado, let's give a warm welcome to Reese and Mark!

Season with Spice giveaway on MJ & The Hungryman

The incongruous match of a dietitian to be and a hungryman intrigued us when we first stumbled upon their blog a few months ago.  And when we delved further into MJ and Tim’s adventures, we learned that a heart condition doesn’t limit love, it strengthens it.

The role that cooking & health play in their lives together always has us returning to follow their story.  Because like many of you, we relate closely to where their journey began, and the adventures they continue to share from their home in Austin.

When we first contacted MJ & Tim to introduce ourselves and Season with Spice – our boutique spice shop specializing in Asian spices and handcrafted blends – we already knew from their blog that they also felt a strong connection between healthy eating and spices.  But when they replied, clearly stating “less salt, more spice”, we knew immediately we found two new friends.

So on this Small Business Saturday weekend, we are teaming up with The Adventures of MJ and Hungryman to give away some premium spices and blends to encourage healthy eating, more flavor, and to remind everyone to help support your small, local businesses during the holiday season.  Because as MJ & Tim shared with us, “Living in Austin, we recognize how much small businesses add to the vibrancy and culture of a city.”

    Details of the Giveaway

One winner will be selected to receive a set of Season with Spice’s premium Asian spices and handcrafted blends.  The set includes jars of Japanese Seven Spice (Shichimi Togarashi), Sichuan Pepper Sea Salt, Spicy Korean Chili Seasoning, Korean Chili Threads (Shilgochu 실고추), Shiitake Mushroom Powder, and Penang-style Chinese Five Spice.

To enter, just leave a comment below telling us what’s your favorite go-to healthy dish for cooking up at home.  [Bonus entry details below*]

Who can enter?  Anyone!  But the prize can only be mailed to a US address.

Enter by 11:59pm EST on Sunday, December 8th.  One winner will be randomly selected (via Random.org), announced on this post, and notified by December 9th.  Good luck!

*Bonus entries: You can increase your chances of winning by leaving up to five additional comments saying you are a new follower OR already a follower –

Wow...some spices that actually aren't on our spice rack. Intriguing!

My favorite healthy dish is one that my husband learned from his roommate from Hong Kong. It has beef, celery, peppers, and a spicey soy sauce topping. We call it Ben's Beef (his American name was Ben). It tastes almost like he made it, but there's some ingredients we couldn't figure out. Who knows...maybe one of these would do the trick.

I am not the creative eater in the family, but am a very conscience one. I have a salad with most dinners, and have been vegetarian for 32 years (I would go full-bore vegan but lack the discipline and from time to time real ice cream and other goodies call to me).

These wings look amazing!! I think you know I am a spice fan, and use 'em pretty much every day, but one of my favorite healthy foods is coffee 🙂 My hubby knows I am much nicer in the morning when I have my coffee, so he gets it ready for me the evening before, and adds ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the coffee grounds. Yum!!!

I love Korean food and these wings look mighty tasty. My favorite healthy meal of late is a whole dorade stuffed with lemon and rosemary and then baked in a salt-crust. I learned about this technique in France. You can find the recipe here: https://www.flavorfuljourneys.com/salt-crusted-dorade/. Thanks for the giveaway!

A vegetarian "curry melange" (i.e. take all the vegetables we have in our fridge, toss in some chickpeas, and stir fry it all up with some curry spices). It's different but delicious every time!
