  • Quick prep: Everything comes together in the blender in about 5 minutes.
  • No flour needed: Rolled oats give the bites structure while keeping them soft.
  • Great for meal prep: Make a batch ahead and keep them in the fridge or freezer for busy mornings.

Key Ingredients

All the ingredients laid out on a white table.

I am highlighting just the ones that need further explanation. The complete list is in the recipe card below.

  • Cottage cheese – Full-fat, and it’s what keeps these so soft and tender. It’s also why they come out of the oven very soft and need time to set.
  • Blueberries – Fresh, stirred in gently after blending so they stay whole.
  • Oats – I recommend using rolled oats and blend right into the batter. If you have oat flour on hand then you can just stir it in after blending all the ingredients.
  • Maple syrup or honey – Just 1 tablespoon, and you can omit it entirely for babies. Honey should NOT be offered before 12 months.

Substitutions

  • Change up the fruit: Swap the blueberries for finely chopped strawberries, raspberries, or another soft fruit.
  • Add a little warmth: Add a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor.

Step 2: Gently stir the blueberries into the batter. This gives you little bursts of juicy blueberry throughout the bites.

Step 4: Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the centers are set and the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool for 10 minutes!!

Expert Tips

  • Let them cool in the pan. This part is important! Let the bites cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before removing them. Because these are a cross between a muffin and an egg bite rather than a traditional flour-based muffin, they’ll be very soft straight from the oven. They firm up considerably as they cool.
  • Use a silicone pan if you have one. It makes these especially easy to remove.
  • Stir the blueberries in gently. Add them after blending so they stay whole rather than breaking up into the batter.
  • Bake until the centers are set. That’s the doneness cue here, anywhere from 18 to 22 minutes.

How to Store and Freeze

These blueberry cottage cheese bites are perfect for making ahead so you have a quick breakfast or snack ready when you need it.

To refrigerate: Let the bites cool completely, then transfer them to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3–4 days.

To freeze: Arrange the cooled bites in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until firm. This is how I like to freeze muffins too! Transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 2 months for best quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my cottage cheese bites so soft?

That’s completely normal! Unlike traditional muffins, these bites rely on cottage cheese, eggs, and oats for structure. They’re naturally more moist and tender, almost like mini egg bites. Let them cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before removing them so they have time to firm up.

Can I use frozen blueberries instead of fresh?

Yes, although I prefer fresh blueberries for this recipe. If using frozen, add them directly to the batter without thawing. Keep in mind that frozen blueberries may release more moisture, so the bites may need a little extra baking time.
