If figuring out what to make for dinner feels like a daily mental battle, I’ve got you! Each week, I’ll do the planning for you with five simple, family-friendly dinners plus an organized grocery list.

Make them all or just choose what works for your family. Either way, that’s five fewer dinner ideas you have to come up with yourself!

Six dinners from October week 2 meal plan.

How This Meal Plan Works

Kids thrive on routine and predictability, and honestly, so do we! Instead of giving you a random list of recipes each week, these meal plans follow the same simple rhythm to take some of the mental load out of deciding what’s for dinner.

Each day has a theme, but think of it as a framework, not a rule. Move meals around, skip a night, repeat a favorite, or stretch leftovers another day. I’ll give you five recipes each week, but you absolutely don’t have to make them all.

The themes stay familiar while the recipes change, giving kids the predictability they love while still helping your family experience new foods and build variety over time.

Tips for Following the Meal Plan

1. Shop your kitchen first

Before heading to the store, take a quick look through your fridge, freezer, and pantry. Cross off anything you already have from the grocery list—especially staples like oils, spices, grains, and condiments.

2. Make the plan fit YOUR week.

Take a look at your calendar before deciding which meals you’ll make. Busy evening? Move the easiest meal there. Plans changed? Leftovers, freezer meals, or takeout absolutely count. Remember, the meal plan is a framework, not something you have to follow perfectly.

3. Don’t forget Toddler Pick Thursday.

Thursday’s dinner isn’t included in the grocery list. Decide on two dinner options you’re happy serving, let your little one choose, and add the ingredients you’ll need to your grocery list.

4. Keep breakfast, lunch, and snacks simple.

You don’t need a different meal every day! Choose a few easy options your family enjoys and repeat them throughout the week. I’ll share ideas when you need inspiration, but there’s nothing wrong with serving the same breakfast several mornings in a row.

5. Prep what will actually help you.

You don’t need to spend your entire Sunday meal prepping.

Look over the week’s recipes and ask, “What could I do now that would make future me happy?” Maybe that’s chopping a few vegetables, cooking a grain, washing fruit, or making a batch of muffins for the freezer.

6. Double when it makes sense.

If you’re already making a freezer-friendly recipe your family loves, consider making two. Eat one now and freeze one for a future busy night.

7. Use what you have and make easy swaps.

Have broccoli but the recipe calls for green beans? Use the broccoli. Have rice that needs to be eaten? Serve that instead of making another grain. Don’t feel like you need to buy every ingredient just because it’s on the list.

8. And remember: you don’t need to make everything.

Make five dinners, make three, or pick just one new recipe to try. The goal isn’t to perfectly follow a meal plan! it’s to make feeding your family feel a little easier.
