My kids absolutely love banana overnight oats and mango overnight oats, and I’m fully on board since I can prep it the night before. While my son enjoys the chewy texture of regular overnight oats, my daughter prefers a softer consistency, so this blended version became our go-to make-ahead breakfast for kids.
It’s an easy win for breakfast or snack time (here are more healthy toddler snacks) for the whole family. Add it to your lineup of baby breakfasts or easy toddler mornings. Want even more fiber and healthy fats? Try overnight chia oats for a naturally thick, satisfying option.

Key Ingredients

I am highlighting just the ones that need further explanation. The complete list is in the recipe card below.
- Oats – Rolled or old-fashioned oats blend into the smoothest texture. Quick oats work in a pinch, but steel cut oats are too hard to fully break down and will leave the texture gritty.
- Milk – We use whole milk at home, but any milk works here. Almond, oat, coconut, and soy milk are all great dairy-free swaps.
- Plain Greek yogurt – Adds protein and helps create that thick, creamy texture. Use a dairy or plain non-dairy yogurt. Flavored yogurt, like this vanilla yogurt, pumpkin yogurt, or blueberry yogurt, would be delicious too.
- Chia seeds – Give the oats a pudding-like texture while adding protein, fiber, and iron, nutrients that matter a lot for growing babies and toddlers.
- Pure maple syrup – Adds a touch of extra sweetness. We use maple syrup instead of honey, since honey isn’t safe for babies under 12 months. Leave it out and drizzle it on top instead if you’d rather control sweetness per serving.
How to Make Blended Overnight Oats

Step 1: Add all the ingredients into your blender and blend and blend until smooth. It will be very liquid-y but don’t worry!

Step 2: Pour the blended oats mixture into a jar with a lid or an airtight container and refrigerate overnight. When ready to eat, give it a good stir. Adjust the thickness (see below), if needed, top with your favorite toppings, and enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Meal Prep – Halve the recipe for a single serving, or double it to cover several days of breakfasts.
- Want a thicker, pudding-like texture? Add an extra tablespoon of chia seeds or a spoonful of nut butter and let it sit 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Go easy though, overly thick blended oats can taste pasty.
- Prefer it thinner? Stir in a splash more milk before serving.
- For the smoothest texture, blend on high for a full 30 to 45 seconds rather than just until combined. This breaks the oats down further so there’s no graininess left.
Flavor Variations

This base recipe is endlessly customizable, whether you’re mixing flavor into the blender or building a bowl at serving time:
- Carrot Cake: blend in 1/4 cup shredded carrots and a pinch of cinnamon, then top with chopped walnuts and shredded coconut, our favorite combination
- Berry: blend in a handful of frozen strawberries or blueberries, then top with sliced fresh strawberries or blueberries
- Chocolate: blend in 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, then top with a few chocolate chips
- Pumpkin Pie: blend in 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree with a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg
- Nut Butter Swirl: top with a spoonful of peanut butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter
- Tropical: top with diced mango and a sprinkle of shredded coconut
- Crunchy Topping: top with finely chopped or ground nuts and seeds or a sprinkle of homemade no added sugar granola
Blended Overnight Oats FAQs
While these are meant to be enjoyed straight from the fridge, if you’re craving something warm, then either: microwave for 45-60 seconds or transfer to a saucepan and heat over medium heat until warmed through.
Raw oats are safe to eat because they undergo a heat treatment process during milling, which eliminates potential contaminants. Additionally, oats contain a natural preservative, avenacin, which helps protect them from spoilage.
For the best taste and texture, I recommend enjoying them within 3 to 4 days. If you’re adding toppings like fresh fruit, nuts, or granola, I recommend adding those just before serving.
