Healthy Banana Yogurt
Yogurt is such a versatile and nutritious fridge staple. It amps up the protein and fat content of any snack or meal, making it more satisfying. It’s also a wonderful source of calcium and probiotics.
While my kids don’t mind plain yogurt, they’re even more enthusiastic about flavored varieties!
And while there are endless blended yogurt options at the grocery store, they contain high amounts of added sugars. That’s why I like to purchase plain yogurt and sweeten it myself.

banana yogurt!
Ingredients

- Yogurt – I recommend using whole milk Greek yogurt (4% or 5%) especially for young kids. They need all the fat they can get to support their rapid brain development. You can also use plain yogurt. The only difference is the thickness. Feel free to swap with any dairy-free alternative, if needed.
- Banana – use ripe banana with plenty of brown spots to naturally sweetened the yogurt without the need for additional added sugar.
- Stir-ins
Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Add banana to a blender and puree until smooth. Alternatively, if you prefer a chunky texture, you can mash the banana with the back of a fork.

Step 2: In a bowl, combine the plain yogurt with the banana puree. Stir in any of the optional add-ins.
Serving Suggestions

While delicious as is, you can invite more fun and variety simply by rotating through these toppings:
- Fresh fruit
- Dried fruit
- Nuts
- Seeds (hemp, flax, chia)
- Granola
- Cereal
- Chocolate chips
- Yogurt melts – The texture is similar to freeze-dried fruit and made with real fruit, beets or carrots, and yogurt. Use the code MIN5 for $5 off your order.
- Peanut butter (or nut/seed butter) – here’s everything you need to know about peanut butter for babies.
You can also combine with creamy cooked oatmeal or overnight oats.
Or add a dollop to your pancakes, waffles, or baked oatmeal.
And last but not least, turn into frozen yogurt bars!
Storage
I like to store 1/2 cup portions in small airtight containers. That way I can easily grab one from the refrigerator in the morning along with various toppings.
It will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. To prevent the bananas from browning over time, consider adding 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to the yogurt mixture.
